Labor and Delivery and so much more

Anthony and I were over at his dad's house on Sunday April 3. We were all sitting around the kitchen table chatting about random things. All of a sudden I felt myself leaking (not a pleasant feeling haha). I went to the bathroom and I thought that my water was going to break. I told Anthony we needed to go, so we jumped in the car and a minute later my water full on broke! Yes, I drove myself to the hospital! We got to the hospital at 8:30pm, and labor started at about 9:00pm. I had contractions for an hour and a half before wussing out and opting for the epidural. I don't know how I thought I could do it without! Bless the epidural! I labored for 7 hours, pushed for 45 minutes, and as soon as the baby was out the nurse said, "SHE is a HE!" I couldn't believe it, and I am pretty sure I was in shock for a good while. Anthony jumped up and down, I cried, my mom gasped, the doctor laughed! I had two ultrasounds both verifying that I was having a girl. Not so! I think I mourned the loss of what I thought would be my "daughter" for point 2 seconds. As soon as I saw my son, I couldn't believe how perfect he was and how I instantly loved him. The nurses took Liam to clean him up and the doctor noticed that his breathing didn't sound right. They immediately called in the respiratory therapist and said that Liam would need to go to the NICU. I got to hold the little guy for 30 seconds before they whisked him away. I didn't get to see him for 7 more hours. Anthony was able to talk to doctors and get updates. His little lungs were having a hard time circulating the air, so they hooked him t0 machines and pushed oxygen through him to help develop his lung's capacity to breathe the air.
First time I held him:)

Isn't this the saddest picture? Poor baby was hooked up to a breathing machine and did not like it. The doctor said Liam already had spunk because he kept spitting out the breathimg tube and was doing things his way.

The doctor finally cleared him to go to the Well Baby nursery after 7 hours of being monitored, so I was finally able to see him and hold him. I am so thankful for modern medicine and technology that help babies like Liam get well. Because Anthony and I were expecting a girl, we had no idea what to name our son. It wasn't until the last day in the hospital that we decided on Liam:)

At this point Anth and I were up for 48 hours without sleep!

Here we are, happy family of 3!! Anthony and I are in love with Liam, and we cannot imagine not having HIM as our child. He is such a sweet baby and he brings us so much happiness.

Liam Allen Hughes

Liam Allen Hughes was born on April 4 at 4:09am weighing 7 pounds 4 ounces and was 20 inches long. I cannot express how much I love him.

Most of you know we were expecting a girl. I'll share that story later!

(My sister in law took this photo. I think it is darling.)

D Day!!

I am probably the worst person at blogging. I vowed to post something new atleast weekly. And as you can see from my last post that hasn't happened! Well lots has happened in the last several months. Most notably---today is my due date! I made it! Well, I'm still making it...because I don't think this little baby is coming on time. I haven't had one real contraction yet! Three weeks ago my doctor said I was a 1 cm. The next week she said I was a 1 cm. Then she saw my sad face, and said, "Well, you're actually a 1 1/2." Thanks doc for the 1/2 cm. Then last week I went in and I made it to a 2cm! Great day. The mistake I have made is thinking I would go before my due date---each day that has passed I felt discouraged and impatient because I thought little Peyton would have made her grand debut by now haha But this little girl is not done baking! I have an appointment on Monday and if everything looks good, my doctor said she will induce me on Tuesday or Wednesday. Let's hope I go before then on my own!!
Some lovely prego shots taken in the last week. I am smiling...but secretly thinking 'Just take the picture for memory sake. I am soo done being pregnant!' haha Women don't lie when they say the last month is the hardest. Most def.

Anthony had a birthday. The big 29. We went to a yummy dinner with family, had presents, cake and ice cream afterwards. His cute nephews helped blow out the candles. (Unfortunately I didn't take many pictures).

I also had a lovely baby shower thrown by some of my besties. I only got pictures of the food and set up beforehand. Once the guests arrived, I didn't have any pics :( But it was a great shower, and I had so many wonderful friends and family attend!
Soooo yummy.

My friend made the cutest diaper cake.

And another friend made the prettiest real cake! It was too pretty to eat...but that didn't stop me haha

Hopefully the next post will be of baby Peyton! I truly cannot express how excited, anxious, humbled etc I feel to know that soon I will be a mother to a sweet baby girl. :) :) :)

Our First Year

Recently Anthony and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary on January 16. It is crazy to think that a year has gone by! It has been a great year, and I thought I would highlight several events that have happened during that time.

Starting with the honeymoon of course:)

Some of the best meals were at little local resturants in the outskirts of Cabo. You had to wander off a bit (sort of sketchy parts of town), but the food was worth it.

I may have gone overboard on the application of sunscreen! haha But he didn't get burned the whole time we were there!

The beaches and local pools were beautiful. One day we WILL go back there!

A few months into marriage, Anthony graduated from BYU's MFT program.

So smart.

And cute.

And a bit of a spaz from time to time.

And then I graduated from the the U in Social Work the next month.

Anthony loves me in spite of the fact that I graduated from the U, and not BYU. Nice.

And then we got a puppy! Bosco boy!

Who has now turned into a fat boy!

We started with a puppy, and then decided to try for a baby. And lo and behold, a few months go by and we find out we have a bun in the oven! One of the best days (and scariest, lets be honest!) of our lives.

We celebrated our first Thanksgiving as a married couple...

Good food.

Good company.

Good naps:)

And we celebrated our first Christmas together. This was neat because we started several Christmas traditions together. It is nice to know that our little family of two will soon be three, and the holidays will be even better next year because of our little addition.

I loved my new rain boots.

And so did Bosco.

We got this book from my parents. I recommend it to any parent. Great information.

Bosco had fun with the trimmings and boxes lol

And we made delicious scones for Christmas morning breaky :)

And that takes us up to our year. It's been a great year, and I have a wonderful husband :) Happy 1 year anniversary to us!

Out with the old, and in with the new and improved

Anthony made a dresser in his high school shop class. We thought it would be cool to refinish it, so it would match the nursery. We have a white crib, so we wanted to paint the dresser white.

Of course Bosco had to help with the DIY project haha
When I say "we" did the project, it was mostly Anthony because I couldn't really be around the paint fumes. So I offered my moral support :)

Here is the finished product. I took the pics on my phone, so the quality isn't that great...but it looks really good and we are so excited to add it to the nursery!!

My Crafty Side

Recently I have been looking around for some cute accessories for the baby. I found a bunch of cute headbands that I liked, but all the flowers cost more money than I thought they were worth. So I got to thinking---I could just make the flowers myself. So I did. I tapped into my creative side, and made cute flowers for this cute little girl that will be here in a few months.

Then I thought---why stop there? I could make more things. I was looking at Anthropologie and they had these really cute flower necklaces, but they charge upwards of $100. I tried my hand at them, and of course Anthropologie's is way cuter and better, but I am still happy with how mine turned out.

And a matching bracelet of course! :)

Desperate at Dillards

Anthony and I were out at the mall doing some Christmas shopping this week. We wanted to get nice leather gloves for his dad. We made our way to Dillards and we asked the saleslady where they were at. She took us to the gloves and asked if we needed any more help. I said no, and started browsing the gloves. We found a pair we liked, and less than a minute later the lady came back over to us (she was totally hovering) and said she could ring us up. I told her 'thanks' but 'we are still shopping.' Anth and I continued to shop, and I told Anthony we should look at hats for his brother. A second saleslady overheard us and said 'follow me. I'll take you to the hats.' So we followed her, and browsed the hats. We didn't find any we liked, so she second lady was all, 'I can ring up the gloves for you!' Again, I was like 'WE ARE STILL SHOPPING!' It was awkward, but we kept on shopping. We headed over to the athletic department, and the first lady was following us about 10 feet back. I could totally see her, and felt really annoyed. Not even kidding she came back over to us and asked if we were ready to check out. I was getting pretty frustrated and told her, 'I don't want to be rude, but we will find you when we are done shopping!' The woman then whispered, 'Do you promise I can check you out? It's just that I told the other saleslady I was helping you first and she said 'well I am helping them now, so I don't care.'" I looked at the lady and said, 'I promise you can ring us up when we are ready to go.' A few minutes later Anthony and I were done shopping so we started to look for the first saleslady. The second saleslady aka the Vulture came over to me and said 'I will go ahead and ring you up.' I told her 'It's okay. Someone else was already helping us.' The lady about died, but walked away. I found the first lady, and she rang up our gloves with a smug, yet relieved, smile on her face. All I can say is that I hope all that was worth it for her. It was only a $35 sale!
